Melissa focuses her practice on government relations with an emphasis on legislative and executive agency lobbying, economic development, strategy, and coalition building. She counsels small and large companies, governments, trade associations and nonprofit entities on a diverse range of issues including health care, Medicaid, telecommunications, taxes, procurement, and education. She also assists companies with identifying and pursuing federal, state and local economic development incentives such as tax credits, financing and grants.
Prior to founding CHW Advisors, Melissa was managing partner of the Roetzel & Andress Columbus office and a partner in the firm’s public law practice group. As managing partner, she was responsible for the day-to-day affairs of the office including business development, marketing, recruiting, and human resources. At Roetzel she not only counseled clients on government relations matters but she also provided advice and counsel on campaign finance and election law. In addition, she advised business clients on regulatory compliance and licensure.
She previously worked as an aide in the Ohio House and served 10 years on the Republican Party Central Committee as representative for Columbus Ward 10. She has volunteered for several candidate and ballot issue campaigns.
Melissa was named to The Best Lawyers in America© for Government Relations Practice (2019-2020), and in 2010 was selected as an "Ohio Super Lawyers - Rising Star" by Ohio Super Lawyers. Melissa is a graduate of the Jo Ann Davidson Ohio Leadership Institute (2013) and Leadership Columbus (2011). She is also a member of Ohio Women in Government as well and the Columbus and Ohio Bar Associations.
Melissa is a graduate of the College of Wooster and Capital University Law School.
